Amazfit T-Rex Review

Unleash Your Instinct with the Amazfit T-Rex super durable smartwatch. Amazfit T-Rex comes with several military-grade certifications which give this smartwatch durability in some pretty extreme conditions. It comes with GPS, an optical heart rate sensor, tracking your distance and route and many other features which we will talk about in the Amazfit T-Rex Review. So let’s dive in!

Design

At first sight, we can see it is not an elegant and casual smartwatch as usual. T-Rex has a rugged, utilitarian look and it comes in green colour. It feels light enough on the arm – weighs 58 grams. Smartwatch includes a silicone strap which is very comfortable to wear. There are 4 buttons around the perimeter. Two on the left side are for up and down. And two buttons on the right side are for power and select.

It has a 1.3-inch AMOLED display, which features 360×360 pixel resolution, a durable Corning Gorilla Glass 3 lens, and an anti-fingerprint coating. Smartwatch has also Always on Display feature but it is disabled by default to save the battery life. You can enable it but Amazfit warns you about doing it because it will reduce the battery life. When the screen is off you can very easily wake it up by pressing any button and tapping the screen.

Battery Life

Amazfit T-Rex has a 390mAh LiPo battery which gives you 20 days without charging considering the regular use. The battery declines faster when we enable GPS about 10% per hour, meaning you should get about 10 hours of juice with continuous location tracking. That’s still impressive by category standards. There’s also a power-saving mode for when you’re in a pinch.

5 ATM Waterproof

The T-Rex is water resistant to a depth of up to 50 meters. Amazfit says it’s safe to wear while showering, swimming in a pool, or in open water, but you shouldn’t wear it when scuba diving or in a sauna, though it can withstand temperatures of up to 70 degrees Celsius. You shouldn’t operate it underwater, and dry it off before using or charging it.

Sport & Health

While the majority of the best running watches are aimed at true runners, some, like the Amazfit T-Rex are for the ultimate outdoor person. With GPS and compass capabilities, hikers and rock climbers shouldn’t lose their way if this watch is their guide. The T-Rex’s location data are very accurate, it is able to know precisely where you are, and point you in the right direction.

In addition to outdoor walking, cycling, swimming, trail running, skiing and trekking, indoor treadmill, cycling, elliptical trainer and catch-all ‘exercise’ 14 sport modes are available to choose from. No matter which you choose, you’re able to see your workout duration, distance and speed. The altitude meter will track your elevation gains, too. You can see these metrics in real-time on your wrist using the up and down buttons — the touchscreen locks when you initiate workouts to prevent accidental taps.

You can check on your heart rate anytime you want. Focusing On Your Health the watch is equipped with Huami’s self-developed BioTracker™ PPG Bio-Tracking Optical Sensor, which performs high-precision heart rate monitoring 24 hours a day. The watch also issues reminders to stand up, which encourage you to develop healthy habits and become your best self.

When you wear the Amazfit to bed, it tracks your light and deep sleep, as well as how much time you spent awake during the night. You can view your stats in the app, along with your Sleep Score from 1 to 100 and Sleep Quality Analysis. The app compares your sleep stats with those of “similar users”. If your sleep score will not be good enough, it will give you some recommendations on how to improve your sleep quality and warn you that a lack of sleep can be detrimental to your health.

Other features

The Amazfit T-Rex has a wealth of smart functions, including weather forecasts, event reminders, call reminders, app notifications, and more, offering a variety of practical tools to facilitate your daily work and life.

How to run your watch and Zepp App

First, you need to set up the T-Rex by downloading the Zepp app and creating an account if you don’t already have one. After creating an account, you enter your gender, birth date, height, weight, activity goal, target calories, and target sleep.

From there, you select Add Device in the app, pick the model you want to pair, and a QR code scanner pops up. You then turn on the T-Rex by pressing the top right button and a QR code appears on its screen. Scan the code, press Confirm on the watch, and you’re good to go.

After getting the watch connected, the app began downloading and installing firmware, GPS, and resource library updates. Now you can set up a watch face which you like. There are 30 options to choose from.

All of the Amazfit T-Rex’s fitness sensors provide useful metrics, but you’ll want to reference the Zepp App (formerly known as the Amazfit App) available for Android and iOS to get a full picture of your health. It stores data on everything from your stride length and calories burned to your training loads and weight. You can manually input your body measurements if you’re looking to track fitness goals as well.

The T-Rex is also compatible with the running app Strava, so you can sync your metrics to keep up with activity challenges among your friends.
